Daily Show

So in the volume-challenged and time-elapsing lecture hall Monday morning, I didn't get a chance to play that last video for you.

Go to Comedy Central and watch the video marked "Sarah Palin Gender Card."

So what is the Daily Show? Is it journalism? If so, how so? If not, why not? It matters a great deal because you and your peers watch it more than you consume mainstream news media.

I don't watch the show that often, but from what I've seen, I would consider it journalism. He is stating the news but in a more informal and entertaining matter. Maybe this show is an example of a crossbreed show --- journalism and entertainment.

I love the daily show and try to watch it whenever I can. As a supplement to a more legitimate news source, I feel I learn a lot about the political world while being very entertained by Jon Stewart's amazing witticisms. (Though I may be biased- my dream is to be a producer for the show!)

I think The Daily Show walks a fine line between journalism and satire. Jon Stewart (and the DS writers)do an excellent job of both informing and entertaining us. In my opinion, his remarks about current issues are both funny and dead-on. It's nice to hear someone cut through some of the political BS. :)

Traditionally, this is far from journalism. But welcome to the 21st century where anything goes. This show is biased beyond belief and should include a disclaimer ("Caution: Unfair and Partial"). In today's day and age, I definately consider this journalism, but I think it's unethical because it doesn't warn viewers of it's a-neutral status.

The Daily Show won an Emmy last night for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series. Not Outstanding Unbiased News Source. Yes, I love the show and I think he humorously gets to the point of things... picking on either wing to get the point across. But if this isn't journalism because it's biased, shouldn't the same be said for The O'Reilly Factor? Just sayin'.
